Select the best time to head there
Although you can engage in surfing all year round in this paradise nation, different surfing styles and abilities are catered by the distinctive conditions that each season offers. The Maldives experiences a tropical climate with year-round average daytime temperatures between 29 °C and 32°C. The sea is warm and inviting for surfing because it rotates between 27 °C and 28°C. Winds and storms can be expected during the summertime from May to October. June through August marks the peak surf season since the largest and most consistent swells can be found during this period.

Decide on where to position yourself
Top surfing locations are scattered throughout its 26 atolls in the Maldivian archipelago. However, the Northern Atolls are the hub of the expanding Maldivian surf community. Since they provide all the amenities and services needed to make an ideal surf vacation, they generally tend to be crowded with surf lovers during the surfing season.  Chicken’s, Lohis and Cokes are some of the globally acclaimed breaks in this area. The waves are excellent in the spring and summer when they usually range from two to eight feet. The biggest waves occur in late summer. So if you are a surfing expert, pick this time to visit the destination.
If you are planning to immerse yourself in surfing all day long, it would be ideal to pick an accommodation like Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi which has been recognised as a surf holiday resort because it is located close to six other world-class waves. These are only a brief boat ride away. A perfect left wave breaking can also be found down one side of the island.

Pick the surfing activity which goes with you
Among its top watersports, surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing take centre stage in the Maldives. These are all incredible sports, each with its own unique charm that will draw different types of spectators.  Surfing is said to be much harder to master at the beginning than the other two as it demands that you perfect your balance to stand up on a wobbly and narrow board. It is also more physically demanding as you have to paddle and catch the waves.
Windsurfing, a combination of surfing and sailing, is an exhilarating experience. You get excellent environmental conditions to engage in
windsurfing in the Maldives. There is a wealth of flora and fauna in addition to excellent water visibility. Mastering the art of windsurfing may be emotionally draining at first but after a few tries you will pick up on how to harness the wind to your advantage. It is also quite technical and you will soon realize this and use it to your advantage to excel in the sport.
You will need a lot of patience, strong commitment, time, flexibility in your schedule and a few other things to learn how to kitesurf. Wakeboarding and power kite flying are combined to create this incredibly unique sport.

Choose the best means to engage in a surf vacation
A surf vacation comes in two forms: a surf resort or a surf charter boat. You will be able to pamper yourself in opulence if you choose a luxury resort. However, such amenities come with a lot of expenses so if you want to choose a more budget-friendly option, go for a surf charter boat.
Surf resorts are also more family-friendly and generally offer activities like fishing, diving and snorkeling which might appeal to different members of the family. They also offer on-site surf guides who will advise and train you on how to make the best of your vacation.
Mobility is key when you pick a surf charter boat. You will be able to visit several places close by and experience diverse breaks before settling on the one which suits you best. You can also build relationships with your fellow travellers and have a gala time together on the vessel.
