Guangzhou is one of the top tourist destinations in China. Guangzhou Zoo
Sprawling over 42 hectares, Guangzhou Zoo is one of the largest urban zoos in the country. The zoo shelters over 4,500 animals that belong to 450 species. Lions, golden monkeys, South China tigers, and black-neck cranes are some of the rare animal species you find at the zoo.The zoo has three sections: Bird’s Paradise, Central Area of Mammals, and Panlong Park, which is home to about 200 reptiles and amphibians. In addition to animals, the zoo also offers many entertaining activities brought about by animals.The zoo is located about half an hour’s drive from Somerset Riviera Guangzhou, and you’ll find other types of Guangzhou accommodation in the vicinity as well.
Giant Pandas House
This is the main highlight of the zoo. You will find a huge number of pandas lazing around and munching on something. Visit in the morning for the best experience; they tend to fall asleep during the afternoon, and there isn’t much activity.
Tiger Hill
Tigers are kept in enclosures, but you can have a close-enough look – make sure you don’t get too close, and if you are with children, keep an eye on them.
Guangzhou Ocean World
Found inside the zoo, Guangzhou Ocean World is an amazing place brimming with rich marine life. The place offers an array of shows as well. Mermaid shows, dancing with sharks, and seal performances are the most popular. Visitors can also feed animals.
Goldfish Garden
This section of the garden is home to about 100 fish species; in total, there are around 10,000 fish. You’ll find an array of tropical fish here, including Arowana and angelfish.
Animal performances
The zoo hosts a variety of animal performances. Lions, monkeys, horses, and tigers have been trained to be great performers. Some of them even ride bikes.
Best time to visit Guangzhou Zoo
Autumn and winter are the best tourist seasons in Guangzhou. October to March is the best season with mild to cold temperatures. December is the best month to visit if you want to see animals as well as the beautiful autumn colours.

And to witness the architecture of southern China, you must visit Baomo Garden; this is a great tribute to art, gardening and architecture; Yuyin Garden is another place with a similar character.For some fresh air and breathtaking views, visit Baiyun Mountain – the place gets packed with people during holidays, so avoid the holiday season. Pearl River is another site that brings you beautiful views of the city.As for temples, the city has numerous temples and other religious places. Guangxiao Temple and Temple of the Six Banyan Trees are two of the temples you should visit during your extra time. And don’t forget to spend an hour or two at South China Botanical Garden.
