Gear up and snorkel

The Maldives is one of the best snorkelling destinations in the entire world. A large number of Maldives luxury hotels and resorts offer snorkelling as part of their package. All you have to do is gear up and dive into the shallow waters near the reef close to your hotel. Most hotels such as the Adaaran Club Rannalhi offer plenty of opportunities to snorkel. While you can always bring your own gear and snorkel whenever you please, it is always better to go out with a companion. You can ask the resort about the best places to snorkel or join one of their own ventures into the sea. Be prepared to meet brightly coloured clownfish, manta rays, reef sharks and other fish species. If you look hard enough near the rocks, you might even see shellfish.

Try scuba diving

The gorgeous reefs pulsating with life beckon pros and amateurs alike to dive. Your resort will probably facilitate diving trips with professional divers. It is not hard to learn as long as you are a decent swimmer. Listen to your guide and patiently explore. You can swim through tunnels and gaze at beautiful coral beds. Scuba diving should take a relaxed pace that resembles the pace of life in the Maldives – unhurried yet full of appealing sights and sounds. You’ll spot fish, crabs, reef sharks and even mysterious turtles on their way.

Go on a submarine ride

You can pretend to be part of Captain Nemo’s crew as you go down under into the depth of the Indian Ocean. A submarine ride usually lasts about 45 minutes to an hour in the Maldives. You will go near shipwrecks and pass coral reefs. Expect to spot dolphins, turtles, stingrays and much more. The ethereal feeling you get as the top of your cockpit submerges deep in the waters, and you get a full view of the ocean will stay in your memory for life.

Try underwater walking

Underwater walking is relatively new. However, it offers an extraordinary experience. You won’t go as deep as scuba diving allows, but you will be able to walk on the seabed. You’ll hold on to a rope that will guide you. All you have to do is wear your sealed oxygen mask and stroll along the seabed with your underwater walking partners and guide.

Go on a glass-bottom boat ride

A glass-bottom boat is a bit like a see-through kayak, but you won’t have to do any paddling. You can sit back, and keep your eyes peeled to discover sea creatures of the turquoise depths. Your glass bottom boat will include comfortable seating and a clear glass panel. You’ll be able to drink in the beauty of bejewelled sea life passing beneath your feet.

Go catamaran sailing

Catamaran sailing appeals to our deep connection with nature and desire to explore. Sailing a catamaran is how we rediscover the innate explorers that live in the human psyche when on vacation. As you sail the waters, you’ll fall deeply in love with the bounteous beauty around you. The salty, sensual breeze will awaken your appreciation of nature, and the sea creatures will feel like part of your connection to the universe.
