Although Bangkok may be popular as a playground for the young and the restless, the Thai capital is an equally friendly holiday hotspot for families visiting with children. Bangkok is home to some of Thailand's top recreational hubs and activity bases, and there's plenty to see and do with your tiny tots during a trip to Bangkok. From spending a day in an iconic aquarium to embarking on memorable cruises, here are some of the best things to do on a family holiday in Bangkok.

Tour Safari World

Often described as the most exciting activity hub for wildlife fanatics touring Bangkok, Safari World is an impressive enclave that expands one's idea of what a zoo can encompass. Safari World is spread out across a vast expanse of 480 acres, and what makes this place one of the top wildlife sanctuaries in Asia is that its animal inhabitants are allowed to roam free. Contained in environments that mimic their natural habitats, this idyllic zoo is the closest that one can get to experiencing a safari tour in the Thai capital. With tigers, lions, Himalayan black bears and giraffes among its residents, it is a truly wondrous place for travellers. Parents and kids with a passion for winged beauties can head over to Bird Park inside Safari World while oceanic creatures large and small are on show at the equally engaging Marine Park zone.

Sign up for a River Cruise

Ranked among the most romantic things to do in Bangkok, enjoying a river cruise on the Chao Phraya River is not just reserved for couples. Taking place at all hours of the day, the dinner cruises on the River of Kings are particularly popular among families as they can witness Bangkok's shoreline lit up for the night. Sailing on converted rice barges, a river cruise also includes a traditional Thai buffet meal and a performance by Apsara dancers.

Head over to Siam Ocean World

If Bangkok has its equivalent of Orlando's Sea World, then it is surely Siam Ocean World. Considered one of Thailand's largest and most spectacular edutainment hotspots, this world-class aquarium is situated underneath the Siam Paragon shopping complex. The marine animals on display and the interactive enclosures of the aquarium are what make Siam Ocean World a great highlight for kids. Don't forget to pop by the 4D theatre, which also happens to be the first in the country, or check out popular zones such as The Rainforest, Living Oceans and Rocky Shores.

Visit Siam Park City

When it comes to the perfect Bangkok amusement park for the whole family, there's no venue that fits the bill quite like Siam Park City. This splash centre and theme park in Bangkok is so vast that families will need to spend an entire day exploring its confines even if it is only divided into 5 sections. Magic carpet rides and adventures onboard pirate ships await families that head to Family World while the Africa Adventure Zone and the Grand Canyon rides are just as invigorating. Rollercoaster and other adrenaline-pumping activities take centre stage at the X -Zone where the famous Boomerang rollercoaster is found.

Discover KidZania

Whether you are based at Maitria Hotel Rama 9 Bangkok or any other boutique hotel in Bangkok, a family holiday in the city would not be complete without a day at KidZania. As the Thai installment of the American edutainment franchise, KidZania allows kids to imagine their future careers and enact what is might be like to be a pilot, fireman or nurse in a mini-town where all their dreams can come to life. Lined with shops, schools, hospitals and firehouses, kids can also experience a 737 flight simulation at KidZania.
