Located in southern Thailand, Phuket is a massive tourist destination in the country. It's the largest island in Thailand and is quite popular among travelers from all around the world for its exotic beaches. The nightlife in Phuket is also vibrant and you can enjoy a wide variety of fresh seafood here. In terms of famous attractions, the ever-loved White Marble Big Buddha (a statue) is located here.

Getting to Phuket

Did you know that Phuket has an international airport? The airport (commonly known as HKT) is at the northern end of the Phuket island. If you have selected a good resort to stay such as Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, you can use their airport shuttle service to get to the hotel. Or else, you can also take the airport bus which normally transports passengers from the airport to Phuket town. If either of the said options is not preferred, you may also opt for a van or a mini-bus, but keep in mind that these options can be a little more expensive.

Getting around Phuket by tuk-tuks

The most common way to travel to Phuket attractions is by tuk-tuks. It's easy, fast, and even more convenient for everyone. In Phuket, tuk-tuks are in yellow and red colors, and if you want to go on a ride, it's just a matter of hailing them down as you would do for a taxi. The fares may vary depending on the distance you choose to travel, but make sure you negotiate the rate with the tuk-tuk rider before you get on.

Getting around Phuket by car

Many say that getting around Phuket by car is easy if you have an international driving license, and this is actually very true. Renting cars is possible at the Phuket International Airport, and if you wish to, you can also get them on rent through the hotel that you stay at. When you drive, be extra cautious because the road conditions in Phuket are poor, and even the road signs are hardly visible. Pay your attention also to the speed limits that are there on the roadside.

Getting around Phuket by Taxis

Although taxis were not popular in Phuket some years ago, thanks to many apps that facilitate taxi booking, they are now becoming popular. All you need is a smartphone to book a taxi in Phuket, and that's as easy as that.

Getting Around Phuket by Songthaew

If you are coming to Thailand for the first time, this name can be quite new to you. Songthaew is a unique mode of travel and transportation in the country, and it's available in Phuket as well. Simply put, it's a pickup truck with 2 rows of seats that is generally used to travel in between beaches. Songthaew can be shared among many passengers, so due to this reason, the fare is much cheaper than that of a tuk-tuk (you won't even have to spend 1$ per ride). If you want to have this experience, catch them at the bust stops in main beach towns between 7 am to 5 pm every day.

Getting around Phuket by motorbike

If you are a confident motorbike rider, you can choose to explore Phuket on a motorbike. Big bikes are in the most demand in Phuket, and you can take them for hire from reputed hiring agents. As mentioned above, the roads in Phuket are not so satisfactory, so you need to be very careful even when riding a bike. Be extra careful if that's a rainy season because the roads tend to get very slippery which may cause risks. Since many locals also use bikes to go here and there, this experience will also let you act like a local when in Phuket.
