Spectacular views, the feel of the fresh breeze, greenery surroundings, and freedom of mind are some of the main objectives that a traveler has in mind when planning a tour into nature. If you are also such a traveler who has plan to explore South Africa any time sooner, do not miss out on Sani Pass located in the Mkhomazi Wilderness area (Lesotho). It's an elevated land area that's 4370 ft above sea level and you have many things to explore when you are here.

Lesotho- the destination

If you are wondering whether Lesotho is a country or not, keep in your mind that it is a country that is landlocked. Although it is always spoken of together with South Africa, Lesotho has been a separate colony from the beginning and is now an independent kingdom. By today, it has also become a tourist destination with a lot of natural attractions such as mountains and valleys. There are also many properties such as Avani Lesotho Hotel & Casino located here that offer world-class hospitality services, and that's a good sign for the tourism sector in this country.

Lesotho attractions

Maletsunyane Falls, Maluti Mountains, Katse Dam, Mohale Dam, and the Pioneer Mall are some of the popular attractions you find in Lesotho. To experience the history, culture, and heritage of the country, there are also other attractions such as Morija Museum and National Museum. If you are looking for things to do in Lesotho, exploring these can be highly recommended for all these attractions offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Sani Pass Mountain

Did you know that this is the highest mountain in Lesotho? It's also the highest peak south of Mount Kilimanjaro which is about 3482 meters in height. The total trek takes around 8 hours, but the special fact here is that you can drive comfortably on the tar road until you see the highest point. At one point, you will have to park the vehicle and follow the hiking signs that direct you to the mountain. Here, you find the perfect opportunities to explore unique wildlife, wildflowers (yet so beautiful and rare), and birdlife.

Taking a guided tour

As you must be aware, this is a 4*4 vehicle ride that's of long duration, and the tour guide will charge you a fee considering this. If you are coming from South Africa, your tour guide will recommend to you begin your tour by heading up Sani Pass. However, if you are at Lesotho (after exploring all other attractions), you normally come at the top of the pass, and drive down gradually.

Things to know if you are driving on your own

Don't expect to find pleasant and timid weather conditions throughout the ride although the beginning of the drive can be so relaxing and calm. When you reach the top, the road is steeper- so make sure you are confident enough about your driving. If you choose to drive on your own, schedule this tour in the morning.

Things to do when at the top

In addition to exploring the ever-beautiful sights, you also have the chance to enjoy a beer at the holiday lodge located there. Make sure you capture each moment in your photographs for they become the memories to treasure in the future. Live in the moment, enjoy the views, and relax your mind, without causing harm to the environment or the wildlife. Since this adventure can be mostly covered on wheels, travelers don't need to worry much about physical fitness. All you need to have is a desire to witness a truly magical moment once you head up the summit.
