Ranked among the world's most family-friendly beach holiday hubs, the Maldives offers those who are travelling with kids a little piece of paradise for themselves. With shallow waters and charming resort islands cut off from the world at one's disposal, spending a memorable family vacation with children may seem a no-brainer for the most part. Here are some helpful hints for parents to enjoy their first Maldivian vacation with their kids.

1. Travel during the Right Season

Families who are planning to visit the Maldives on holiday must first ensure that they are touring the archipelago during the right time of year. While the Maldives is a year-round beach Mecca in most respects, those who are visiting with children must make sure that rainy days don't disrupt their travel plans. The best time of year to vacation in the Maldives is from December to March when the skies are clear of dark clouds and the chances of rain are minimal. This is also the peak travel season in the country so the cost of accommodation and other commodities may be higher but the great weather is surely worth the extra few dollars. Avoid visiting the Maldives during the monsoon rains, which start in May as most outdoor adventures including water sports will be off-limits.

2. Don't Stay Too Long

While the Maldives may be a veritable paradise for tourists, honeymooners, water sports fans and families, the destination is not suitable for an extended holiday. This means that the ideal family getaway in the Maldives should not exceed a week as the activities and attractions available to tourists will dwindle during a longer period. Children, in particular, are likely to grow tired of the same routine and surroundings, especially if they are confined to a resort island for an extended period so it is crucial to keep this in mind when planning a holiday.

3. Finding the Ideal Family Rest

With so many luxury hotels and resorts to its name, it may feel daunting to choose a base for your family's stay in the Maldives. While a 2 bedroom beach villa in Maldives will more than suffice for the average size family, it is important to look into the on-site facilities and amenities on offer at resorts such as the Baglioni Resort Maldives among others. The resort's distance to the Male Airport is another important factor to consider due to the seaplane and boat transfers required to reach the mainland from the resort islands. In addition to swimming pools, private villas, on-site restaurants and recreational activities, families should also find a venue that provides babysitting services and has a kids' club.

4. Sign up for Activities

There's more to a Maldivian holiday than splashing around the ocean and building sandcastles. Signing up for a whale-watching safari, for example, is a must for all families as it is a magical experience open to all. Catamaran or yacht cruises, kayaking tours and banana boating adventures are other fun things to add to your itinerary. Families with a passion for water sports or diving can also sign up for group diving classes at the local water sports centre and earn PADI certifications. Children as young as 8 years old can get a Bubblemaker certification.

5. Don't Skip Male

Although most tourists skip spending time in the Maldivian capital, Male is the cultural and commercial heart of the archipelago. Families who love to go on shopping sprees will find that Male is the only city where a large number of boutiques and local markets are found. Exploring the National Museum, Sultan Park and Republic Square are all essential during a day trip to this dynamic city.
