While the Maldives is one of the most popular destination wedding hubs and a honeymoon hotspot in the world, the islands are also perfect for a pre-birth getaway. Offering new parents the chance to relax and spend time together in a tranquil setting, the Maldives is the perfect location for a holiday before the birth of your child. From finding the right resort to signing up for activities, here's how to plan the babymoon of your dreams in paradise.

1. Time it Perfectly

The first step in planning a successful babymoon in the Maldives is deciding when to go. While your pregnancy and due date may dictate this aspect of the holiday, those who are in their first or last trimester during the peak tourism period should ideally head to the islands between December and March. This is mainly due to the idyllic weather conditions that prevail over the archipelago during these months as the period from May to October usually includes rainy days that could dampen your holiday mood. Travelling during the sunnier periods of the year will also be prudent for outdoorsy and active parents-to-be.

2. Pick the Right Resort

Whether you select the Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi or any one of the top resorts in Maldives, the right resort for your babymoon is one that provides safety and comfort. It is best to choose a hotel that is closer to Male due to the airport transfer fees incurred in seaplane or boat transfers. In addition to the distance from the capital and the country's international airport, expecting parents should also consider the creature comforts and luxury amenities available at their resort of choice. Staying at an over-water villa or a beachfront bungalow can be a real treat for couples who hail from colder climes. It is also crucial to explore what on-site activities and excursion options are afforded by your base as you will be spending most of your holiday confined to one resort island.

3. Sign up for Feasible Activities

Unlike your honeymoon or anniversary holidays, the types of activities you can enjoy together might be limited due to pregnancy and various other birth-related complications. This is why it is necessary to sign up for low-impact activities that are unlikely to cause too much strain on you or your partner during this special time before the delivery. Adventure sports and high-octane activities such as jet skiing and parasailing might be impractical and unsafe so opt for snorkelling tours, island hopping excursions, whale-watching safaris and spa days instead. Those who wish to enjoy surfing, water skiing and other activities are welcome to explore package deals on more challenging activities as long as they are aware that their pregnant partner will not be able to join in.

4. Organise a Date Night

Babymoons are often considered the last hurrah before the responsibilities of parenthood become the reality of a couple's life so it is crucial to keep the romance alive by scheduling a few date nights during the getaway. From dining on the beach or heading to the underwater restaurants in the Maldives to sandbank picnics, the choices are seemingly endless when it comes to romantic dining ideas.

5. Pencil in a Day Tour of Male

Couples with a passion for culture and cuisine must also reserve a day or two in their travel itinerary to go sightseeing in Male. Although most tourists ignore the commercial and cultural capital of the Maldives, the dynamic city is where the National Museum, presidential palaces, Sultan Park and the Grand Friday Mosque and the best local restaurants and boutique shops are found.
