How to travel around Bentota

Bentota is a lovely coastal city in Sri Lanka, famous for its beautiful beaches and water adventures. The best thing about this city is that it's relatively close to Sri Lanka's commercial capital- Colombo. Even during a stay in Galle, Kalutara or Colombo, you can travel to Bentota without any hassle. When you are there, you can get around the city using several means.

1) Exploring Bentota

Bentota is surely a city to be explored! You may choose to explore this wonderful coastal town during your stay at Heritance Ahungalla. Since Bentota is one of the neighbouring cities, exploring this beach town is one of the favourite things to do in Ahungalla among the tourist community. Tourists love visiting the cultural points of attractions located here, and of course, enjoying the unique beach vibes. The nightlife in Bentota is also great, and this is why many beach bars, pubs and restaurants open in this city quite rapidly.

2) Heading to Bentota

As previously mentioned, Bentota is located within close vicinity to all main cities (be it Colombo, Kalutara or Galle). This suggests that you can take a bus/train to Bentota from anywhere in Sri Lanka. If public transportation is not your thing, you may also hire a cab and travel to Bentota. No matter how you come, you should explore this town at least once in your life.

3) Tuk-tuks

If you ever wonder what would be the easiest way to get around Bentota, the simplest answer is using tuk-tuks. Tuk-tuks are readily available everywhere in this town. Especially in front of hotels, supermarkets and restaurants, you may find a bunch of tuk-tuks parked together. If not, you may also look for technology support as you have Uber and PickMe apps to help you out with tuk-tuks.
Make sure the tuk-tuk that you get into has a meter fixed. If you don't see a meter there, agree on the price before you go. 

Generally, the tuk-tuk drivers here are friendly and they are talkative. So, the rides with them are sure to be entertaining. Do you know what's more entertaining? The way they take their tuk-tuks in between the narrowest spaces!

4) Taxis

You can also book taxis using Uber and Pick Me. If this doesn't work, many places rent out vehicles in Bentota from whom you may take service. If you are on a long vacation with your family members or a group of friends, this can be the ideal option for you as that is easier, simpler and more customized.

5) A scooter ride?

Do you wish to explore Bentota at your own pace? Then, a scooter ride will be the best option for you. All you need to do is to get a scooter on rent, and drive safely on the roads in Bentota. The roads are all fine, and since many locals also use scooters for their daily use, you won't feel embarrassed.
Safety tip- wear a helmet, no matter how short the distance you travel. Your safety is important, more than anything.

6) Using the busses

If you want the least expensive mode of transportation, it's surely the bus network. Busses are available in Bentota, and their rates are also highly affordable. The issue comes with the convenience. Busses do not cover all routes in this city, and on the other hand, they follow schedules.

However, you can always try traveling to one place on a bus, and then taking a tuk-tuk / taxi from there to your desired destination. This is one way you can save your money too. You may also try short distances on foot. After all, this will be a good exercise to your bodies.
