The picturesque island of Phuket draws innumerable holidaymakers with its alluring attractions which would include stunning natural scenery, lovely beaches, lively night markets, exciting nightlife, delectable seafood and more. By tuk-tuk

Travelling by tuk-tuk would be a popular option in Phuket. You will see that tuk-tuks here would look rather different from those to be found in Bangkok; they are generally four-wheeled yellow or red vehicles which would be entered from the rear. You will find that the local youth would be very fond of travelling in these vehicles which would often feature lights and powerful sound systems. Although the prices for using these vehicles would be somewhat high, you will typically find that they would offer a convenient and simple way of getting about in Phuket.

For inexpensive and convenient transport in Phuket, consider travelling by songthaews which are small trucks that carry passengers in their rear deck. You would find songthaews near bus stops in Phuket’s downtown area as well as in proximity to the popular beaches. Before getting into one of these vehicles, you should negotiate the fare to be paid with the songthaew driver; the rate could be negotiated per person or by group. As you might expect, the fare to be paid would vary depending on the distance, time, and weather.

By bus

There would also be several bus services that you could use for your transport needs during your holiday on the island. One of these would be the Phuket Smart Bus which you could use to travel from Phuket Airport or between the beaches; these buses would be air-conditioned and inexpensive. However, you could also use the Potong buses which happen to be basic vehicles without air-conditioning that would be particularly useful for travelling to destinations on Phuket’s western coast. Since this would be a form of public transportation, you could expect cheap fares for using these buses.

By taxi

Naturally, travelling by taxi would be a convenient and comfortable way of getting about. While you don’t get Uber, there is an ideal alternative; you will find that availing yourself of a taxi via the Grab ride-hailing app would be an excellent option, providing you with the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant ride in air-conditioned comfort. As a standard fare would be payable, you would be freed from having to bargain regarding the cost of your journey. When it comes to major hotel chains that offer resorts in Phuket which could be easily reached by taxi, consider the accommodation options of Minor Hotels in key locations on the island.

By motorbike taxi

You may also consider travelling by motorbike taxi which would be a rapid, fairly affordable and even enjoyable way of getting around. You will readily find these convenient two-wheelers in localities like Phuket Town, Kata, Patong and Karon. You could easily identify motorbike taxi drivers by their colourful jackets on which a number would be printed. While they would offer a quick and simple way of travelling comparatively brief distances in Phuket, remember to always ask for and wear a helmet when using this mode of transport.

By rental car or motorcycle

A great way to explore and experience the island would be by renting a car and driving it yourself. As you might expect, this would be a relatively safe, comfortable, and hassle-free way of experiencing the local attractions; naturally, the costs involved in renting a car may be greater than public transport though you will have more flexibility. You may also consider renting a motorbike for your travel requirements which will be even more cost-effective. However, you should keep in mind that the driving conditions in Phuket could be challenging, and you would need good riding skills and alertness.
