By domestic flight and seaplane

For travelling sizable distances in the Maldives rapidly, taking a domestic flight would be an excellent option. There would be as many as 16 airports within the islands that could be reached by such flights.

Another attractive transport option would be travelling by seaplane. In fact, this mode of transport may be regarded as one of the most enjoyable ways to travel as you would have the opportunity to enjoy stunning aerial views during your journey. If you could afford it a seaplane trip would be a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Also, keep in mind that some of the far-flung resorts in Maldives could only be reached via seaplane.

By speedboat

A popular means of transport for both foreign tourists and locals would be travelling by speedboats. Such vessels would take you to your destination including nearby private resorts rapidly and conveniently; it would also be a reasonably cost-effective mode of travel especially when compared with seaplanes. You would find that a speedboat ride would be an enjoyable experience as well, as you skim over the waters at an exhilarating pace. You would additionally have the opportunity to charter speedboats for adventures making them a great option for intrepid travellers. An accommodation choice to consider that you could easily reach by speedboat after you land would be the ideally located Adaaran Club Rannalhi.

By ferry

For travellers on a modest budget, using the ferries to visit different inhabited islands would be an attractive option. If you desire to travel around the Maldives for the lowest possible cost, this would be the transport mode of choice. You would find that all of the inhabited islands where the Maldivians live would be interlinked by ferry services. However, you should keep in mind that ferry services could be late and may be unreliable. Also, you should be aware that the resort islands couldn’t be reached via ferry.

By yacht and dhoni

For visitors looking to splurge, undoubtedly one of the best ways to travel around the islands would be on a private yacht. Yachts could transport you in comfort and style taking you to the attractions of your choice. As you might expect, it would be a delightful experience to traverse the Maldivian archipelago in this way, visiting secluded islands and remote reefs.

On the other hand, even if your budget happens to be more limited, you could still explore the island nation on a chartered dhoni vessel; this would be a traditional wooden sailing craft commonly used by the locals as well as resorts which offer excursions like sunset and dolphin spotting cruises.

By taxi and bus

In cities like the capital, Male, using taxis would be an efficient way to get about. In fact, for an enjoyable Maldives city tour, travelling by taxi would be an appropriate choice. These vehicles would also be particularly useful when you are travelling with luggage or happen to be enveloped in a sudden shower.

In Maldivian cities such as Male or Hulhumale, there would also be bus services that visitors could use. Whilst these services would be cost-effective, the routes covered would, as you might expect, be limited.

By bicycle and on foot

Due to the modest size of the islands of the Maldives, it would be feasible to explore some of them on a bicycle. Naturally, cycling amidst the beautiful scenery and tropical climate would be an appealing experience and some resorts would provide bicycles for the use of their guests.

Finally, within the islands, simply walking would be a simple and agreeable way to get around. Walking at your own pace would be a great way to explore the resort islands as well as local communities where you can soak up some Maldivian culture.
