How to fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

This is the most convenient and fastest way to get to Koh Samui from Bangkok. It will take about an hour of flying to get there. You can catch a flight with Bangkok, Thai, Lion or Nok Airways. The first flight headed to Koh Samui leaves Suvarnabhumi Airport around 7 30am and the last one departs at 7 pm. You can arrange with your resort Koh Samui to organize pick-up from Koh Samui airport. Check with resorts like the Avani+ Samui Resort to organize transport. The good thing about catching a flight is that you don’t have to bother with a ferry ride. You’ll be at your resort within half an hour or so depending on the distance.

How to take the train to Koh Samui from Bangkok?

Boarding a train from Bangkok to Koh Samui is one of the most inexpensive ways to get there. You have to get off the train at Surat Thani though. From there you need to catch a ferry to Koh Samui. First, you’ll have to get to the ferry port by bus. You can book a train to ferry ticket at the train ticket window. In general, there are about 9 direct trains from Hua Lamphong train station to Surat Thani. You can even go for the sleeper train option. To get to the train station, use the blue lien of the MRT. This is far easier than getting stuck in traffic above ground.

How to catch a bus from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

You can board a bus from Bangkok, get to Surat Thani and then take the ferry to your Samui hotel. The positive point for the bus journey is that the bus directly goes to the pier in Surat Thani. You can catch a bus from Khaosan, Mochit or Southern bus terminals in Bangkok. The first bus of the day towards Surat Thani leaves at about 5 pm and the last bus departs around 9 pm. The buses have air conditioning and you can select your seat when you book online. Bus sleepers unfortunately are not as comfortable as the ones you find on trains. But, it does get the job done.

How to take a taxi from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

If you wish to travel in comfort and take breaks along the way, a private taxi is the best option. It can cost you about 360 USD. The taxi then will take you (comfortably) all the way to Surat Thani pier. This is where you can catch the ferry to Koh Samui. The drive will last about 11 hours. You should factor in breaks from time to time to allow the driver to rest. It is going to be a long journey and you wouldn’t want an exhausted driver at the wheel. You’ll also need breaks in between.

How to prepare for the journey from Bangkok to Koh Samui?

Unless you are taking a flight to Koh Samui, prepare for a long journey. Wear something comfortable. You can dress in layers that are easy to peel off or put on depending on how you feel. Take a few snacks and plenty of water along for the journey. Pack a face hydrator, sanitizer and some tissues and toilet paper.
